Whether you're creating a sound installation, playing a concert or building a studio, the acoustics of a room is something you have to deal with. Through this course, you will be introduced to phenomena such as absorption and reflection, near field and far field, with a practical approach for artists and musicians.
The course is a hands-on approach that aims to provide a basic understanding of concepts and phenomena in acoustics and psychoacoustics.
When we talk about sound, we usually mean sound and sound propagation in air within the audible range. The science of acoustics deals with the physics behind it all and what affects our experience of the physical phenomenon of sound propagation.
Most people associate the term acoustics with sound in rooms and the experience of the soundscape, and it is often used for both room acoustics and building acoustics.
Acoustics affects sound and sound propagation between the source and the ear, and how sound affects us through our perception and interpretation of the soundscape.
The course runs over two evenings and utilises Notam's various studios with demonstrations and theoretical introductions to phenomena such as:
Kurset ledes av akustiker Bjørn Strand. Bjørn Strand (f. 1950) er utdannet sivilingeniør fra Norges tekniske høgskole (NTH). Han jobbet som forsker ved SINTEF akustisk laboratorium (1974-1976), og som akustiker for NRK (1977-2015). Han har også drevet sitt eget akustikkfirma, 3D Akustikk AS, siden 1988. Strand har utformet akustikken i en lang rekke prosjekter for blant annet Oslo-filharmonien, Norsk film, Nordisk film, Inter Arts Center i Malmö, og NRK. Notam jobbet med Strand for første gang i 2002, og han har gjort all akustisk utforming av Notams nye lokaler, som stod ferdig i 2024. Dette kurset er en unik mulighet til å lære om romakustikk fra en av Norges dyktigste og mest erfarne akustikere.
