Are you interested in managing a place at the intersection of art, technology and new knowledge? Notam – Norwegian Centre for Technology, Art and Music – is now looking for a new Director who can shape and develop a unique, professional environment in a place where artists can explore, experiment and create works that might otherwise not be realised. As Director, you will have the opportunity to develop Notam artistically, professionally and organisationally, and to strengthen Notam’s position in the Norwegian and international art scene.
See the announcement on finn.no.
Notam is the Norwegian Centre for Technology, Art and Music. It is a centre for all artists in the independent field who work with art, music and technology. Notam works along the entire value chain, from idea and development to the dissemination of finished works. Our activities are divided into four core areas: assistance in creative work, research and development, education and training, and dissemination. Notam has four full-time employees and two part-time employees. Notam has a workshop, a studio for visual media, a reading room, two sound studios, a recording room, a project space and a small gallery space for concerts and exhibitions. Notam also has a few offices for rent for artists and art organisations.
The position of Director offers a rare opportunity to further develop Notam in collaboration with a national and international network, and to contribute to the production of the art and technology of the future. As Director, you will have overall responsibility for professional development, personnel, daily operations and finances, including work to secure external funding. You will also represent Notam in different networks, establish and develop collaborations, and actively contribute to Notam’s projects and artistic activities.
As Director, you will play a central role in the development of Notam in line with our strategy. You must enjoy varied workdays and be able to alternate between strategic development, administrative work and practical tasks. Candidates who have a strong academic and artistic background but limited management experience will also be considered. You must be fluent in Norwegian and English, both spoken and written.
The position is a four-year fixed-term position with the possibility of extension.
As Director at Notam, you will work closely with both employees and artists. We are therefore looking for someone who has a good understanding of the role and solid communication and collaboration skills. You are creative and independent, as well as reliable and solution-oriented.
We are looking for someone who is professional and who supports initiative and creativity by inspiring and facilitating development. You are able to unite and motivate employees and contribute to an organisational culture characterised by collaboration, curiosity and trust. You thrive managing the small and large tasks of the day to day, while staying on course with the long-term strategic goals.
Necessary qualifications:
- Documented expertise within one or more of Notam’s core areas, with experience in the art field.
- Good leadership skills with a solid understanding of personnel management and organisational development.
- A good understanding of finance and administration.
- Experience in writing grant applications, budgeting and accounting.
- Experience in networking nationally and internationally, and skill in building relationships within relevant networks.
- Experience in planning and organising events.
Desired qualifications:
- Experience in working at the intersection of art and technology.
- Relevant management experience, for example in staff management or project management.
- Experience with research supervision or teaching.
- Driving licence.
Ideally, part of the position will be used to supervise and guide artists and to contribute to Notam’s project work. Consequently, it is an advantage if you have practical experience in, for example, recording, studio work, or the development of electronics, mechanics or programming.
What we offer:
At Notam, we place great emphasis on building competence within our professional community. As Director, you will have dedicated time for your own professional and artistic development, allowing you to expand your expertise and deepen your practice. We offer membership of KLP. Salary by agreement.
Start date is as soon as possible, or by agreement. Upon appointment, there is a six month probationary period.
The application deadline is September 20th, 2026. Applications, including a CV, two references and any supporting documents, should be submitted via the portal in finn.no, or sent to soknad@notam.no.
