Notam’s Max and Pd meet-ups are a gathering place for anyone interested in programming with Max and Pd. It is an informal get-together where users of Max and Pd can share ideas, projects and techniques, or simply help one another.

Pure Data (Pd) is a visual programming language developed by Miller Puckette in the 1990s to create interactive electronic music and multimedia works. Pd is an open-source project with a large developer community working on new extensions. It can run on Linux, macOS, iOS, Android and Windows.

Max is a visual programming environment for creating art, multimedia, sound and music, developed by the company Cycling ’74. It is one of the most popular tools for creating all kinds of digital art and has been an industry standard since the 1990s.

Whether you’re interested in programming interactive design, music, sound or images, this event is for you.

These meetings are chaired by Bálint Laczkó, a composer and music technologist who has been an enthusiastic Max user since version 5. He actively uses the programme to create algorithmic compositions and visual expressions in real time, to build up and deconstruct sounds, and to position sound in space via loudspeaker systems. He holds master’s degrees in composition (both classical and electroacoustic music) as well as a PhD in music technology.
