April 23, 2025 from 18:00 - 21:00 we will be hosting a workshop in haptic feedback here at Notam.
About the workshop
In this workshop we will experiment with haptic feedback– that is, vibrations caused by small vibrator-motors as known from gamepads, sextoys and phones. Normally this feedback is used to notify us of something happening, but much more is possible – it is in a sense a technological-artistic language that entered our everyday life in modern times, and in this workshop we will try to experiment with it and see how we can use it for artistic purposes.

In the workshop, we will use the Hyaline Teensy Haptic Audio Player Board to translate audio to vibrations. You can either borrow one of these boards (limited amount available and may be shared) or buy one as part of the workshop. The board is Arduino-based and very flexible and can be used for all sorts of audio and art projects, not only with vibrations. The board can be used as a USB audio interface that plays sounds and turns them into vibrations, or it can be used standalone to play files from an onboard SD card. We will use it as an audio interface to make it as easy as possible.
The workshop can be attended by anyone working with sound, no technological prerequisites necessary apart from basic knowledge of audio software.
About the instructor
The course is led by composer and artist Mads Kjeldgaard. Kjeldgaard is a Danish composer, writer and sound artist. His work generally explores presence and time - for the moment with particular emphasis on slowness, silence and environment. As a developer, he has worked both at Notam, and at Torso Electronics.

A computer with USB-A inputs to connect the electronics
Audio software on your computer – a DAW is recommended, in particular Reaper, but if you have other preferences that you know well, then that’s fine too.
