Våren 2025 lanserte Notam, i samarbeid med Axel Vatne Barratt-Due og nyMusikk en lesegruppe for teknologi, musikk, kunst og filosofi. 

Denne høsten starter vi opp igjen, og vil over de neste månedene fortsette å lese og diskutere bøkene The Real World of Technology av Ursula Franklin, og On the Mode of Existence of Technical Objects av Gilbert Simondon. Vi følger en leseguide satt opp av musikkfilosof Patrick Valiquet, og utforsker sammen hvordan disse verkene går i dialog med hverandre.

Denne gangen skal vi lese Gilbert Simondon, del 3, kapittel 2, Relations between technical thought and other species of thought (s. 191 – 222).

Patrick Valiquet introduserer lesningen på følgende måte:
«In Simondon, Part 3, Chapter 2, ‘Relations between technical thought and other species of thought’ (191 – 222), we find the ‘memory’ of magic returning through the ‘reticular’ nature of ‘aesthetic feeling’. What differentiates art objects from tools and instruments? Are there specifically technical forms of beauty and value? How should art (and philosophy) mediate technical evolution? Simondon affirms Franklin’s image of the human-operated telephone switchboard as ‘beautiful not because of its characteristics as an object, but because it is a key-point in collective and individual life’ (198). What images can work for us today? At the end of the meeting, we will begin to gather a short list of terms for a glossary to guide experimental instrument builders in the upcoming symposium through key terms in Simondon’s and Franklin’s thinking.»

I lesesirkelen har vi så langt lest følgende:
– Kapittel 3, 4, 5 og 6 (s. 48 – 134) av The Real World of Technology av Ursula Franklin. 
– Introduksjon, del I, del 2 (s. 15 – 159 og del III, kapittel 1 i On the Mode of Existence of Technical Objects av Gilbert Simondon. 

Vi håper så mange som mulig ønsker å være med på lesesirkel. Den er åpen for alle, og en kan selv velge om en ønsker å delta på alle samlingene, eller kun et utvalg. Du må ikke ha lest alt materialet på forhånd. Pdf til begge bøker finner du via lenkene over.
