The SuperCollider development team has been hard at work preparing the next release, and we can expect some significant and exciting changes in 3.15. At the meetup in November, we’ll hear from Jordan Henderson, but this Wednesday Christof Ressi will be joining us to present the following:
- new Server-side features:
- upsampling
- reblocking
- Strings/Symbols as UGen arguments
- new plugin API functions
- unified plugin API for scsynth and supernova (= no need to build two different plugins)
- plugin API extensions
- future roadmap
In addition to this we will also be joined by Dennis Scheiba, whom will walk us through some of his compositions and approaches to his practice, which is conceived in live coding.
Dennis Scheiba is living in Cologne, Germany, where he studied mathematics and music and worked as a machine learning engineer, artistic-scientific researcher and is now Digital Lead for K3, an interdisciplinary network on art and AI. His compositions were played at IRCAM, MIT, Johns Hopkins University, ZKM, Ligeti Zentrum and he also performs as a live coder.
Since 2021 he has been involved in the development of SuperCollider and co-managed the release of 3.14 and 3.15 and recently ported SuperCollider to the browser using wasm and created DynGen as a way to use JIT compilation for SuperCollider UGens.
«I have always been deeply interested in the creation, perception and organizing of sound. There are many interesting ways of doing this, but I found that an algorithmic approach to sounds provides a way of surprising me: I can apply ideas from different areas and see how I can translate them and perceive them unfolding in sound. Additionally, I found that working with code it allows me to write systems where sound and light can influence each other and have ever since been attracted to audio-visual compositions.»
