DIN Is Noise
For the next event in the series Notam Forum with SkRR on Thursday April 10, Indian/British Jagannathan Sampath will be giving a talk/workshop about DIN Is Noise – a software musical instrument for Windows, Mac OS X and GNU/Linux.
Where tradiational synthesizers normally use oscillators with waveforms such as sinus, triangle, pulse and sawtooth, DIN Is Noise uses Bezier curves – parametric curves often used in computer graphics and animation in order to create smooth transitions and natural motion. With DIN Is Noise it is possible to create your own waveforms by combining three Bezier curves in a number of different ways, and play with the resulting sounds on a continous scale reminiscent of how one plays a theremin – gliding up and down scales.
This evening Sampath will present the software that he has developed, and workshop participants will be able to design their own sounds and playing with them. The event is free and open for anyone interested in performing and composing electronic music. We start at 6 p.m.
