About Notam and Studio Sirius
Notam is a resource center for innovative use of technology in music and art. Since being founded in 1992, Notam has been a spearhead for the experimental contemporary music scene in Norway. We have several studios for composers focusing on experimental sound techniques. We also have several project spaces for multimedia artistic development, and a dedicated staff of sound technicians, programmers and electronics specialists.
Studio Sirius is a new 24-channel surround studio. The speaker configuration is set up in the shape of a dome in a 30 square meter space with high acoustic standards. The speaker configuration supports advanced multichannel formats, up to 3rd order 3D ambisonics. The studio is, to our knowledge, one of a kind in Norway, and makes it possible for us to strengthen support for artists who specialize in immersive sound environments. Notam aims to cultivate novel artistic expression in a variety of genres in which immersive sound plays an increasingly important role.
Our target group
We are interested in cultivating a new generation of composers and sounds artists with a willingness to experiment and push the envelope for various immersive sound formats. The age group 25-40 will be given preference, but that does not exclude other age groups, especially if the applicant has a track record of composing and/or performing multichannel works of high quality. All applicants should have some experience from multichannel composing. Upon reviewing applications, we will attach importance to both artistic and technical research questions, with an emphasis on the artistic project value.
